Why I'm Running

On October 11, 2026, I'll have the privilege of representing Advocate Health Care as a member of its charity team at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon! This race is deeply personal to me. Twenty years ago, I ran my first - and only (so far) - marathon. Early on in my marathon training, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. As a young patient, I experienced firsthand the fear, uncertainty, and hope that come with relying on compassionate, skilled healthcare professionals. Thanks to exceptional medical care, I was able to reclaim my health and continue pursuing the life I dreamed of. 

Years later, I experienced healthcare from a very different perspective - as a mother. When my twins were born and spent five weeks in the NICU, the nurses and physicians became our lifeline. They cared not only for my babies but also for me, guiding our family through one of the most emotional and uncertain times of our lives with extraordinary skill, compassion and reassurance. Their kindness is something I will never forget.

Today, I am honored to give back - not only as a former patient, but also as a physician. Every day, I have the privilege of caring for patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I've seen the incredible impact that outstanding healthcare can have, both from the bedside and from the hospital bed. Those experiences shaped who I am and inspired me to support the people and programs that make that care possible. 

By running for Advocate Health Care, I'm helping raise funds that support cancer research, programs for children and adults with Down syndrome, initiatives that care for patients and families and resources that empower physicians, nurses and healthcare teams who change lives every day.
