Why I'm Running

On January 9th my friend Meaghan Haughey asked my hometown squad if anyone wanted to run the Chicago Marathon in October with her. Eileen Sheahan, being the optimistic go-getter that she was, replied “Low key, yes. That’s a good post grad goal.” I of course replied “I wish I could but my body’s not capable.” Eileen viewed this opportunity as a chance to set a goal, work towards achieving it, and accomplish it. Everyone that was lucky enough to know Eileen knows that she truly lived her too short life to the fullest by spreading joy, kindness, laughter, and love. She said yes to everything and did not sweat the small things.

To fully embrace what it means to Live Like (and for) Eileen, my best friends and I will be completing Eileen’s goal by representing Advocate Health Care as members of their Charity Running Team during the Chicago Marathon on October 13, 2024. Prior to two months ago, I could not even run a mile without walking. With Eileen’s spirit and the Live Like Eileen mentality present all around me and within me, I have been able to push through that barrier and prove to myself that my body is in fact capable. I know Eileen will be running right alongside us every step of the way.

It would mean so much to me if you would consider donating. Once I reach my fundraising goal for Advocate Health, I will be donating the rest of the money to The Academy at St. Joan of Arc’s Eileen Sheahan Memorial Scholarship.
