Jamie’s brother, John Burhani, passed away May 2015 at age 49, after battling an aggressive lymphoma.
Following his death, Jamie and her family established a memorial fund in John’s name.
They decided against setting up a scholarship fund because “school wasn’t the thing he was passionate about.” It was art.
That was when Jamie hit upon the idea of funding art therapy at the cancer center.
Therefore, everything raised by “Growing for a Cause” went towards art therapy for patients undergoing cancer treatment - specifically supporting a fund to remember John Burhani’s legacy and help people going through the same difficult journey he went through.
It aids patients going through cancer the opportunity to heal with the help of art, by funding art therapy at local centers.
Between August of 2022 and May of 2023, we raise $5,120 with our “Growing for a Cause” project.
This afternoon I had a bit of an epiphany when some of the photos from that fundraiser popped up in my Facebook Memories.
You guessed it – it’s time for “Growing for a Cause – Part Two” to take place!
I plan on kicking off the fundraiser on February 18, which happens to be Ash Wednesday, with a head shave. I plan on growing my hair until Christmas!
I will have more information available as I work out the details. Feel free to message me on Facebook if you want to help me with the “Cause”…
