John Burhani passed away in May 2015 at age 49, after battling an aggressive lymphoma. Following his death, Jamie Cairo and family established a memorial in John's name.
They decided against setting up a scholarship fund because "school wasn't the thing he was passionate about." It was art. This is when Jamie hit upon the idea of funding art therapy at the cancer centers.
The John Burhani Memorial Arts Fund was founded in 2018 as a way to honor John’s memory by supporting and funding art therapy for cancer patients undergoing treatment at the cancer centers where John received much of his care during his battle with cancer.
Everything raised by this fundraiser will go towards art therapy for patients undergoing cancer treatment to honor John Burhani’s legacy.
It will help people going through the same difficult journey he went through, providing them the opportunity to heal with the help of art by funding art therapy at local centers.
Here’s how the fundraiser will work…
The fundraiser will officially kick off on February 18. We would like to do the initial head shave on Facebook Live on before that date.
After that I will start growing my hair – on both my head and face. I will not shave as long as we hit the goals set for the following dates…
"Cut Off" Dates
• Easter Sunday, April 5 (46 days) Reach at least $750 to go on until…
• Memorial Day, May 25 (50 days) Reach at least $1500 to go on until…
• Independence Day, July 4 (40 days) Reach at least $2,250 to go on until…
• Labor Day, September 7 (65 days) Reach at least $3,500 to go on until…
• Halloween, October 31 (54 days) Reach at least $4,250 to go on until…
• Thanksgiving, November 26 (27 days) Reach at least $5,121 to go the final 19 Days which would be Dec 15.
As an incentive, when we reach each cut off point, there will be a drawing for a “prize” to show our appreciation for your generosity.
This is a very worthwhile cause, and I am honored to be a part of Growing for a Cause – Part Two. Thanks for doing your part to help.
