I am working on a project that would pave the way forward for the new generation of anesthesiology training.  We have an opportunity to add a Virtual Reality component to resident training. With your help, our goal is to raise $90,000 for a 3-year pilot of this technology which will improve our already proven excellent training.

The Virtual Reality (VR) Medical Training Platform provides a cutting-edge, immersive VR training environment designed to elevate the medical education experience for anesthesiology residents.  This platform will transform the way our residents practice critical procedures and also foster innovation and collaboration across departments.

Benefits of VR Training

Integrating a VR platform in anesthesiology at Advocate Illinois Masonic will augment our simulation lab to strengthen resident training. Students wear VR goggles and use a handheld toggle device to complete procedures on their laptop, anywhere, anytime. VR training benefits are many and include:

• Providing residents & attendings opportunities to practice & perfect multiple procedures & scenarios countless times, mastering techniques without the risk of patient harm.
• Replicating real-world procedures in a controlled setting, allowing residents to confront challenges that would be difficult or impossible to simulate in a traditional learning space.
• Positioning Advocate Illinois Masonic as a leader in medical training; our program will be more attractive to top-tier talent, which is important in Chicago’s competitive environment.

Additionally, the immersive nature of the platform is a powerful tool for engaging high school students interested in the medical field, providing an innovative way to spark interest in healthcare careers. Philanthropy will enable us to secure this innovative technology. The cost for an initial 3-year contract with two headsets and unlimited licenses is $90,000.
