The new Creative Arts Therapy Studio at Advocate Children’s Hospital was established in honor and loving memory of my mother, Grace Ann Giobbia.
Born and raised in Chicago, Grace and her husband, Jim, raised their family of six just down the block from the hospital, making this location a perfect tribute to her legacy. Grace’s creativity and devotion to children flourished throughout her life, whether she was creating intricate ceramics, designing unique sewn pieces, or simply encouraging others to see the world from new perspectives.
The idea for this dedicated creative space stemmed from Grace’s own special room in our home, where her inspiration came to life. She generously shared her artistic gifts with us, her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, always supporting our creative endeavors. She believed that creativity was one of the best therapies for opening the mind.
My mom lived her life with a continuous spirit of creativity, kindness, and faith. She would be immensely proud to see this studio, where children can let their imaginations soar. If she were here today, her message to all the kids would be: think positively, embrace silliness, change your scenery from time to time, and never lose your sense of creativity!
Art therapy is proven to help children and families facing illness or hospitalization communicate their feelings, fears, and concerns. It offers a much-needed outlet for self-expression and coping. This Creative Arts Therapy Studio provides a safe space where hospitalized children can step out of their rooms, relax their minds, and let their imaginations flourish.
Now open on 4Hope, the studio's continued success relies heavily on philanthropy. Generous donors like you make it possible to supply art materials, resources, and special programs, ensuring that patients and families can benefit from this vital service. Thank you so very much for your support!
With love, Dina Giobbia-Stukel
